VOICE welcomes a new President and three new members at the annual General Assembly
On May 23, VOICE held its annual General Assembly, which united over 60 people from VOICE member organisations and stakeholders.
VOICE members thanked outgoing President Wolf-Dieter Eberwein for his commitment to the network.
At the General Assembly, VOICE members elected Nicolas Borsinger as the new VOICE President. After working for 14 years for the ICRC, where he was active both in the field and at headquarters, Mr. Borsinger became the Director of the Foundation "Pro Victimis" in March 2000.
In addition, three new members were welcomed to the network, which now consists of 84 organisations across 18 EU countries:
? HelpAge International (UK)
? INTERSOS - Organizzazione Umanitaria Onlus (Italy)
? GVC- Gruppo di Volontariato Civile (Italy)
Two new board members were also elected namely Peter Runge (CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg) and Nicholas Martlew (Save the Children UK).

The General Assembly also approved the next VOICE Strategic Plan, which will last from 2013 until 2017.
Lastly, the VOICE Resolution 2012 was approved, which this year focuses on "What humanitarian NGOs are all about". The Resolution explains the added value of humanitarian NGOs: what is their role and how do they work in support of crises affected populations.
On the eve of the General Assembly, VOICE celebrated its 20th anniversary by inviting a number of high-level external speakers for the event 'Humanitarian NGOs: something to celebrate?' The panel consisted of Florika Fink-Hooijer (Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Georgieva), Thea Hilhorst (Chair of Disaster Studies, Wageningen University) and Hugo Slim (Visiting Research Fellow, Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict) and was chaired by Wolf-Dieter Eberwein (outgoing VOICE President). The panelists reflected on the role of NGOs in disaster response, key challenges ahead and how to best prepare for these challenges.
